Storage Shed Buying Guide

The right shed keeps your garage clear and your tools dry. Here is how to choose the material and size.

Metal shed or resin shed?

Galvanized steel sheds give you the most space for the money and resist rot, insects and fire. Resin sheds never need painting, won't rust, and usually include a floor.

What size shed do I need?

6x4 to 8x6 ft holds garden tools, a push mower and bikes. 10x10 ft adds room for shelving and seasonal gear. 12x20 ft and larger can store riding mowers, ATVs or even a car.

Do metal sheds come with a floor?

Most metal shed kits do not include a floor. Build on a level concrete slab, pavers or a wooden platform, and anchor the frame so it stays put in high wind.

How long does a shed take to assemble?

Small sheds take a few hours with two people. Large metal sheds and garages can take a full weekend. Every kit includes hardware and step-by-step instructions.

Do I need a permit?

Many towns require a permit for sheds over a certain size. Check with your local building department or HOA before you order.
